Joe Ryan ends Twins' streak of 1,908 days without complete game shutout

Joe Ryan has done the impossible by pitching a complete game shutout for the Minnesota Twins. It's the first one the Twins have had in five years and Bally Sports North has dubbed it "A day [the Minnesota Twins] will remember."

Ryan and the Twins defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-0 Thursday afternoon in Minneapolis, with Ryan tying up the BoSox for just three hits while striking out nine in his masterful performance. 

It was the first complete game shutout by a Twins pitcher since Jose Berrios blanked the Orioles on April 1, 2018. If you're doing the math, that's 1,908 days ago. It was also the first complete game by a Twins start since June 7, 2018, which was also a game pitched by Berrios. 

The offense came from a pair of monster home runs by Byron Buxton, a long ball from Carlos Correa, a two-run double by Michael A. Taylor and a bloop RBI single off the bat of Royce Lewis. 

Buxton's two homers traveled a combined 931 feet, making him the first player since 2015 to hit two homers of at least 460 feet in the same game. 

The victory gets the Twins back to .500 at 38-38. Cleveland completed its sweep of the A's to stay within a game of Minnesota at 36-38.
