Why You Should Watch Carlos Ulberg and Alonzo Menifield
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The headline event of UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Nascimento is, well, Derrick Lewis and Rodrigo Nascimento. The Houston native is looking to continue his ascent in the UFC record books, searching for another knockout. However, another fight fans should watch for this Saturday also sounds enticing: Carlos Ulberg vs. Alonzo Menifield.

Some intriguing storylines are happening with this match, starting with the fighters breaking through their division. It’s a light heavyweight bout that isn’t the main event, nor is it the co-main event. However, there are a couple of reasons why fans should pay attention to this bout.

Carlos Ulberg And Alonzo Menifield Was Supposed To Happen In March

Originally, the match between Carlos Ulberg (10-1) and Alonzo Menifield (15-3-1) was supposed to happen on March 30. However, the fight got moved to its current May 11th date, moving away from Atlantic City to St. Louis.

The two-month delay shouldn’t stop hardcore UFC fans from tuning out of the fight. In fact, it should be the opposite. Carlos Ulberg is a heavy hitter who can knock out an opponent easily. His powerful strikes can come from anywhere, whether it’s his fists or feet.

Alonzo Menifield is also an offensive unit, doing whatever it takes to finish the fight. It’ll be a battle of who can land the finishing blow, with potential for an early-round finish in the works. With Ulberg’s wide offensive arsenal and Menifield’s athleticism, expect an incredible fight between two formidable fighters.

Ulberg-Menifield Should Be A Budding UFC Rivalry

Carlos Ulberg stated he greatly respects Menifield in a recent press conference. The New Zealand fighter also said he could foresee multiple matches against the Dallas native. Two fighters that respect each other’s abilities are such a rare find in today’s sports world. This could be an underrated rivalry that develops a cult following among UFC fans.

Why? It showcases two underappreciated offensive talents competing in the ring. 12 of Carlos Ulberg’s victories were by knockout, while Alonzo Menifield has 10 knockouts to his name. Fans always appreciate a good rivalry, whether it’s McGregor-Khabib or Ortiz-Liddell. Saturday has the chance to be no different, with both fighters looking to add more eyeballs to the light heavyweight division.
